Meat Pie Recipes, Healthy and Delicious

Dalgano - Australian Food | The meat pie has long been recognized as Australia's most famous recipe at several sporting events. They are made from a short skin base filled with a rich minced beef sauce. They are generally unhealthy foods, high in saturated fat, trans fat, and salt and are marketed anywhere from supermarkets to gas stations (or "gas"). However, you can make a healthy version of this Australian specialty with these recipes:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour (or "whole grain")
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 420g (or 15 ounces) can brown lentils, drained
  • 200g (or 7 oz) lean steak, trimmed of fat
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped

Steps to Cook Meat Pie:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (or 350°F) and line a 20 cm (or 8 inches) pie pan (or "pie pan").
  2. Mix 1 tablespoon of oil into the flour. Add one cup of water to the flour and mix. Knead and roll thinly. Cut a circle with a diameter of 30 cm (or 12 inches) at the top and roll the traceback. Place in a pie pan ("pie pan") and bake for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a frying pan and fry the onions. Add vegetables and cook. Add the meat and lentils and bring to a slow boil with a few tablespoons of water.
  4. Once thickened, pour into the bottom of the cake and cover with a lid. Squeeze the ends together then make a cut in the middle (or "center") of the lid. Place in the oven and cook for 30 minutes or until all sides are golden brown.
  5. Take it out of the oven, cut it, serve it and taste it!

Tips:

You can make this recipe vegan or vegetarian by substituting all steaks for lentils. You can substitute it for another iconic Australian recipe known as Shepherd's Pie (originally British and Irish) by steaming a bunch of potatoes (or sweet potatoes), mashing them with a little margarine and milk, and placing them on top of the pie before they are baked in the oven. This is a good way to add extra vegetable rations to your diet.
