Chicken Piri Piri

Dalgano - Portugis - Food nando's style piri piri. Back when I lived in London where most of the food was bland, Nando's was an option if you wanted to taste a strong spice. Besides Nando's, there is another Pepe's Piri Piri, KW which is cheaper.

I often eat this snack when I want something spicy and seasoned, so you can say that this Piri Piri chicken is my and Junda's first comfort food. It is said that this Piri Piri chicken comes from Portugal. This is a bit confusing, in Portugal I have never once found a restaurant that sells Piri Piri chicken. Another source says that this chicken comes from South Africa. The taste of the chicken is spicy, savory, and slightly sour, with a strong aroma of herbs.

Actually, I've tried making Piri Piri chicken before, but at that time because I was so glued to the original recipe that I found on Cookpad, it didn't taste right on my tongue. This time, the recipe was tweaked a bit by combining recipes on Cookpad and the results of watching many videos on YouTube adapted to the ingredients available at home and my and Junda's taste buds too.

Ingredients:

  • Olive oil
  • Paprika powder, it's even better if you use smoked paprika
  • Oregano
  • Rosemary (optional)
  • Dried parsley (optional)
  • Big red chilies / curly chilies can also - the amount is adjusted according to your wishes
  • A little bit of garlic
  • Cayenne pepper for those who want spicy - as desired
  • Lemon water
  • Salt
  • Brown sugar (optional)
  • Honey (optional)
  • Country chicken cut to taste

How To Make Chicken Piri Piri Recipe:

  1. Pure paprika powder, oregano, chilies, garlic, olive oil, and lemon juice. The dose of olive oil uses feeling but it has to be quite generous. Just 1/2 the lemon first for fear of being too sour. Don't forget to add salt, blend everything until smooth, then taste
  2. Here the tasting session is very important to correct the taste to suit your taste. But the important thing to remember, the spicy and sour taste must come out. After tasting, because I think it needs a hint of sweetness, I add brown sugar and honey. I also added rosemary and dried parsley to make it more fragrant. It turned out to be really delicious.
  3. Prepare the chicken, I use 1 chicken which is cut into 6 parts. Marinade the chicken with the Piri-Piri spices, massage slowly so that it is more absorbed, and spread the spices to every inch of the chicken
  4. Let the chicken soak in the marinade, store it in a covered place and then put it in the refrigerator. Leave it for at least 20-30 minutes, even better if you can leave it overnight. Yesterday I put 24 hours in so that it penetrated deeper.
  5. The next day, arrange the chicken on a baking sheet that has been lined with aluminum foil while preheating the oven to 200 degrees.
  6. Add and bake for about 30 minutes.
  7. While waiting for the chicken to cook, you can prepare potato wedges/fries/rice/salad to eat. I make wedges.
  8. Potatoes are washed very clean because the skin will also be eaten, then cut into pieces and boiled briefly until 1/2 cooked. Then season with salt, olive oil, garlic powder, oregano, parsley, and rosemary, then heated on Teflon until dry.
  9. Because I like chicken that has a slightly charred sensation, from the oven the chicken is then grilled again on the pan. Actually, if you can put it directly on fthe ire, it will be even more similar to Nando's though
  10. Serve with wedges!
  11. It's really good because you let it sit all day in the fridge, it feels really good to seep into. The seasoning is also delicious because there is a hint of sweetness from brown sugar and honey, but it's still hot and spicy. It's really good to eat while dipping into the remaining sauce from the pan.
