Mochi The World's Most Popular Japanese Food

Dalgano -  Recipes Japan The"Q" stands for extreme chewy - the kind found in mochi. Well, at first, the mochi is very chewy, gooey rice balls usually filled with ice cream, kidney beans, or sesame paste - a real sweet taste. But you can fill the mochi with anything - more like pasta the better, so it melts into the thick rice husks.

Here, we've put purple sweet potatoes into generously sized chewy mochi that you can enjoy, or give to someone else as a lovely gift. In fact, food is usually given as part of the Japanese Temiyage gift-giving culture.

The best way to enjoy dessert is with a warm cup of green tea - it's a yin-yang idea that something sweet goes hand in hand with something slightly bitter.
